Inlays / Onlays

If you have tooth decay that’s too widespread for a filling (more than half the tooth’s biting surface) or in a location that makes treatment with a filling impossible or less predictable, Dr. Scalia can restore your smile with inlays or onlays. Depending on your individual needs, we use inlays and onlays made of porcelain, gold, or tooth-colored composite. Over the course of two appointments, we’ll prepare the area, take an impression of the tooth, and apply a temporary inlay/onlay.

At your second appointment, we’ll cement or bond the permanent inlay or onlay in place and then polish and smooth to a perfect finish. Not only can inlays and onlays improve the appearance of your smile, but they also rebuild broken or decayed teeth. Once in place, when well maintained, inlays and onlays can last more than 20 years. That’s quite a bit of smile time.
